Question:

: Our JRT is a wonderful dog, and housetrained. However, whenever we do something that makes him upset, such as not allowing him to do whatever he pleases, he goes to a sofa or a certain place on the floor and urinates. It is an act of revenge, we feel sure, since it only happens when he is greatly upset over what he seems to feel is a great injustice. I have no idea how to deal with this. I never actually catch him doing this so I cannot reprimand him at the time. However, he always makes it a point to be at an observation point as I clean it up. It is such a clear act of intent to punish, he almost speaks the words! Please help me to know how to deal with this.

Hi Julia,
Ok please don't get me wrong but you are thinking in human terms and dogs don't think this way. They don't do acts of revenge, and they certainly don't feel injustices, you may, but your dog doesn't. Most likey you weren't watching your dog and it had to go outside to use the bathroom. Please don't confuse human feeling and emotions with those that dog have, they just aren't that smart and they sure don't do things for revenge, spite, jelousy or any of these human emotions.
Just remember to watch your dog more closely and put him out more often and if you can't keep your eye on him then crate him, then you won't have these problems.
Regards
Linda
