Question:

: Hello! First of all, I just want to say "thanks" for providing this forum for JRT owners. It's great and I am online more b/c of this site. Keep it up!

: I got a little girl JRT last week. I am an American living in Japan, specifically Nagoya. Jane is now 11 weeks old and has adjusted very well to her new home here with me after I purchased here from a pet store (sorry:-(

: She is very energetic and has adapted well to her cage. She never cries or barks (yet?!?) and is otherwise a very nice little dog. I think she is absolutely the most beautiful animal that I have ever seen!

: Before asking this question, I checked the archives for similar concerns and I know you will suggest I take her to the Vet, which I will do, but I just wanted to post this anyway.

: She has this little wheezing fit only occasionally which lasts for 10 seconds then ends with a gagging type of retch. Nothing ever comes out but she seems a little upset afterwards and looks at me with her lovely eyes. Of course it hurts me to see her experience this. Is this the same thing as the other coughing concerns I've read about or possibly related to collapsed trachea or "kennel cough"?
: Thank you and sorry for such a long message.
: Paul

Hi Paul,
You are absolutely right, and answered your own question. A trip to the vet is in order. We are not vets, and even if we were, a diagnosis can't be made over the internet. This could be any number of things, or perhaps nothing, just a tickle in the throat. I wish we could help more, but sometimes this board isn't the right place for certain questions.
Have fun with your new pup!
Heather
