| Question: : : My husband and I have recently purchased an eight-month old male JRT. We are probably going to have him recorded (we will most likely neuter him shortly), but I had two questions about this. Because we got him from the breeder at an older age, she had already given him a name. We decided to change it, but his original name is on the pedigree the breeder gave us. So, my first question is do we need to get a new pedigree with the name we gave him on it in order to record him as that, or will we be allowed to change his name even if we submit the current pedigree (with the old name on it). My second question is also a matter of name. If possible we would like him to have the breeder's prefix. How do I find out whether the kennel name is listed with the JRTCA? Are only those kennels listed on the Breeder's Directory web page officially listed with the JRTCA. Thanks so much for the information. : ------------------ Response Area ------------------- : Hi, Elisabeth, : You should really contact the JRTCA office for specific answers to these questions. I can't help you as much as they will be able to, but I CAN tell you that many of us have pedigree names and everyday names for our dogs. If you want to keep the name the breeder gave your dog for his recording paperwork, you can do that, OR you can just enclose a note with the paperwork to explain that you changed the terrier's name and you want him to have his new name on all paperwork. : I have two terriers with fancier names than I actually call them by. One of them is Cromwell Heather Rose (aka Rosy). The breeder put "Cromwell Rosy" on her pedigree, but when she's an adult and I go to have her registered, I'll let the registrar know that what her full name is. : And when you send your paperwork in, the registrar will be able to determine whether or not your breeder is a JRTCA registered breeder, and if so, the kennel name will be included. No, a breeder does not have to be in the breeders directory to be a registered breeder. : Like I said before, though, contact the JRTCA club office for definite answers to these questions at Contact the JRTCA : Sorry we can't be of more help. : Jane ------------------ Response Area ------------------- I also have a terrier who competes under an alias. Only her friends know that Spot is really Rynward's Teasel. When asked we tell people she is in the witness protection program. As to whether the breeder has a registered kennel prefix. I would call them and ask. Best, |
