Hi Diane,

I just watched an episode of Emergency Vets on Animal Planet yesterday where they removed a NINE inch stick from the throat of a Golden Retriever. So my answer would be to NEVER let any dog chew or play with sticks. The vets had to literally slit the dogs trachea open and cut the stick in two pieces to remove it. Fortunately the dog survived and it's owners bought it some safer toys to play fetch with.
