shedding

Question:

my dog Rusty is a year old and he seems to shed a lot. Rusty can walk through a room and there is almost always a trail of dog hair, I just want to know if this is normal or not. I was washing him every week at first but now it is every other weekend, But I can't really tell if there is a difference. Could you give me some advise on this?
