| Question: : My 9 month old male has tiny dandruff flakes all over. I rinse him with warm water occasionally (he gets very dirty) but I never bathe with shampoo (last time I did was when he rolled in manure last summer :P). It doesn't itch at all, so I'm not too worried about an infection or parasites. I know my skin gets dry in the wintertime- could that be what's wrong with his? Any suggestions? ------------------ Response Area ------------------- Have you seen your vet about this? I would definitely start there if it concerns you. My terrier, Rowdee has dandruff in the winter only. It's because the heat here (I live in Maine so I have radiant heat baseboards throughout the house) dry him up. I notice it more on him because he has a lot of dark spots and he's smooth. For all I know, my other terriers may have the same thing, but they're all rough or broken and more white, so it's hard to tell. Your vet may be able to recommend an oil supplement that may help if the problem is dryness. It could be nutritional, too. Jane |
