Question:

: My Jack Russell has a habit of putting her toys under our night stands, dressers, tables and couches. She will get it stuck and proceed sometimes destructively to get to it. Do you have any suggestions how I can curtail this destructive and annoying behavior. She appears to be doing this on purpose for the challenge of trying to retreive it..

Hi, Rick,

This is a pretty common thing for Jack Russells to do. When mine start doing it, it means that they're bored and looking for ways to challenge themselves. This means they're lacking in proper exercise, 9 times out of 10.

I suggest that you find constructive activities for your terrier. Is there any way to let your terrier get in some hard running? A tired Jack Russell is a well behaved Jack Russell. Also consider getting toys that can't go under the furniture. I have a Roll-A-Treat that's too large to get under there, as well as stuffed toys and a Wiggly Giggly ball. Basketballs can be fun for a dog, too.

Good hard exercise would make the most difference here, otherwise you need bigger toys that can't be hidden.

Good luck!

Jane
