Are all JRT's bad with young kids?

We had a JRT for nearly five years. We had a baby almost three years ago and right from the start, Lucy (the dog) loved Emma and was never mean to her. She would "kiss" her to the point of ridiculousness but other than that no issues. We taught Emma to be respectful of the dog, and Lucy would sometimes bring her toys to Emma to share. We are getting a new puppy (Lucy was hit by a snowplow) in a few months. What should we do differently now that Emma is here first? We have already planned to send a blanket with all of our scents on it to the new puppy before we pick her up. And of course remind Emma to be extra careful with the littler puppy. We want this to work... please help!
