Killing Rodents

Question:

My 10 month old male killed a rat and was so excited he ran to me and was his usual self wanting to kiss and be petted. I did not know how to react since my first instinct was to run from him. I really did not want him to kiss me after knawing on a rat. What would be the correct reaction from me? does it matter? We have a huge backyard and I love my garden so I don't want to discourage him killing pests.
