Question:

: Hi,

: I am interested in purchasing a Jack Russell Terrier, and the breeder I am looking into has puppies that were bred with a Broken coated father and smooth coated Mother.

: Is there any way to tell by looking at the puppies if they will be smooth or broken?

: I would really rather a smooth coat, but was wondering how to tell?

: Thank you,
: Sue

Basically there isn't a way to tell at an early age, I have seen some that I thought they were going to be smooth and they broke at 18 months of age, you just never know and an honest and reputable breeder will tell you that. If you find a breeder that says that this one is going to be smooth at 6 weeks or so, then run for the hills from this breeder. There isn't a proven way to tell, and as I said most will tell you they can't.
Sorry I can't be of more help, but coat shouldn't matter when it comes to quality puppies and remember that smooths are shedders and shed 24/7!
