Question:

: I have a 5 year old short JRT. I got him from a rescue one year ago. Ever since I've had him he has carried one of his hind legs. If we hike for 2 miles he will be on three legs for 1.5 miles of it. He never acts like he is in pain or wants to stop hiking because of it.

: I have taken him to a vet on a number of occasions and she can't feel anything wrong with his knees or hips, and since he jumps on to things and off of things with no problem she isn't sure anything is wrong with him. But I think he is her only JRT.

: My question is. Is this just something JRT's do? He is my first one. Or do they have a genetic degenerative hip problem.

: Thanks for any help you can offer.

Hi Ben,
Jack Russells can have some orthopedic problems (see medical information below), and what is a normal "skip" and what is not is hard to tell online. If you are unsure of your vet's diagnosis, it wouldn't hurt to see another vet or a specialist. Even if it's nothing, it would give you peace of mind.
