Question:

: My 3 1/2 month old JRT, Tyson, fractured a bone in his front leg last week. Although the vet took exrays, he could not specifically see the fracture due to the many growth plates that puppies have. The vet wrapped his leg in a cast-like bandage which he took off today. Tyson has still not put any pressure on the leg yet. I'm a little concerned that he may have a problem with his leg permanently. Has anyone ever had a similar experience with their JRT and if so, what is your advise??

I am sorta confused here but that is normal, did the Vet take the cast off or did the dog remove it. If the Vet took the cast off then don't worry about it he will use his leg again in time. You may want to ask your Vet about swimming him. I did this to one of mine for short periods in the bathtub, to build up the leg muscles again. I filled the tub and held my dog up so that he would have to use the leg but I wouldn't suggest this without talking to your Vet first. By swimming him he is putting presure on the leg, but he is getting his muscle tone back, I start off with just 5 mins a day and worked up after a week or two, to 15 mins. a day, but my dogs leg had been very badly injured!
If the dog took the cast off then you need to see the Vet!
Hope this helps you some but please call your Vet and ask him about swimming your dog to regain the use of his leg.

Linda
