Question:

: We have a 2 year old jack russell. She is a house dog and a family pet. We would like information on how to best groom her. We do not show her or anything like that. She is smooth coat and sheds terribly. We have tried everything, help.

Hi Terri,
The best grooming tool I've found for smooths is a plain-ol' rubber curry comb. You can pick one up at a tack shop or farm store in the horse supply session. I get them at a horse show were we do agility every year. Cost is $1.29 for the small ones. I use this to brush Robin and the cat every day, and there is a reduction in the amount of hair in the house. Do this outdoors, or you're in for a big mess. I will be completely honest with you though; nothing is going to get rid of the shedding or hair all over the place completely. Shedding's what smoothies do best!
Also avoid over-bathing, as this can aggrevate shedding. Only bath when your dog is really, really stinky. If she's just a bit dirty, brush with the curry or rinse with warm water only. If she gets muddy, put her in her crate until it's dry and the curry will usually take it right off.
Good luck!
Heather
