Foxtail/barbed weeds

Question:

Our happy JRs have the run of fields which will soon dry to meadow grasses which include foxtails and other barbed weeds. They will have to endure anesthesia and many vet trips unless I can find some breatheable device to cover their noses (I am thinking like horses use to keep flies away). Is there such a thing?
