Question:

: First let me start by saying..... HELP!!! I am the proud owner of my very first terrier. I adore Trixie Belle but, she has a bad habit of using our house as a doggy toilet. We have had her since early Dec. 2000. She was from a very loving family who didn't have a fenced yard and she ran the household ! We have crate trained her and she has done well with that....only a few accidents. The main problem now is the constant finding of little suprises under or behind things in our home ! Trixie Belle even walks around ashamed afterwards. Some have said that fixing her would help. We do not plan to breed her and have decided to have her fixed anyway. Will this help, and if not what should we do?
: Thanks so much,

Although some females mark, I don't think this is the case. So spaying her probably won't help in this instance. Spaying is great if you aren't going to breed though, and I would still do it. Sounds as though she needs to go out and you aren't getting her out in time. Please see housebreaking FAQ. Start from scratch on housebreaking. She's not ashamed when you find her "presents", but she is worried because she knows it upsets you. Clean it up using a good enzamatic cleaner. ( see your local pet supply store for recommendations of good cleaners)

Best wishes,

Brenda
