| Question: : A new neighbor has just moved in, they have a JRT that is black and tan (much like a dachshound). They insist it is only one of a few in the USA, a very rare breed. Looks like a JRT/Dachsy mutt to me. I'm keeping my mouth shut until I hear more from those that may know. ------------------ Response Area ------------------- Hi, John, Unfortunately, there are a lot of people out there who fall for the line "this is a rare JRT." It's one of the things I always advise people to stay away from when looking for a dog of any breed. There are breeders out there mixing all kinds of dogs together to make a buck by claiming they have something "rare" or "unusual." I don't know a single, responsible, reputable breeder who has bred a JRT with no white on it, and I furthermore no breeder that I respect would ever sell a terrier as "rare." John Russell's ideal terrier was white bodied, and that is why we breed white Jack Russells, not colored ones. |
