Question:

: I just got a Jack Russel Terrier and she is in heat. Our other dog keeps going after her and she keeps going to him. How long will she be in heat for, We do not want to breed her. Also can we get her fixed right after her first heat?

Hi, Terri,

Your terrier's heat will last for 21 to 28 days from the first day it began. Yes, you can get her spayed as soon as she comes out, and some vets will do it while a terrier is still in heat.

Call your vet and consult with him/her about this.

Good luck,
Jane
