| Question: : I have a great jack, he resently went to a show & I was bursting w/ pride because he acted like he had been going to shows all his life (it was our 1st show). I would like to do GTG w/ him but I' am afraid that it will change his personality, like make him aggressive in general? I saw some very ill bahaved dogs at the show & I just don't want him to end up like that I have been working (& I'm still working) on his obedience, I love my boy & I just don't want him to change. ------------------ Response Area ------------------- Glad you made it to a terrier trial! Isn't it amazing how Jack Russells can be so accepting of each other at trials? I can never get over how for a couple days it's as though they have their own little world, and it's no sweat for them to be surrounded by a hundred or more Jack Russells. As for your question, no, Go To Ground will not change your terrier's temperament. What you saw that you probably interpreted ad bad behavior was a whole lot of terriers who were excited because they knew they were going to do Go To Ground? Or at racing? Just because those dogs were all fired up doesn't mean that they act like that typically. I'm even guilty of taking my terrier, Rowdee to the Go To Ground and saying "Wannagittarat?" This will even send him into a literal scream of excitement. I get a kick out of him when he's all worked up like that. But I promise you, he's the most sweet, well natured pet you could imagine. He just likes Go To Ground so much he can barely contain himself. Hope this eases your mind! Jane |
