| Question: : I have a brand new Jack Russell puppy. When I put her in her crate at night, she crys the whole time. I thought maybe it was because she was lonely, being that she has just been separated from her family. Will she outgrow this crying? ------------------ Response Area ------------------- Hi, Ashlee! I know you posted this about 11 days ago, and you may have worked through this already, but yes, it is totally normal for a puppy to cry in her crate in the beginning. Given time, she will work through it and realize that it's her safe place. Pups really love attention, attention and more attention, but like human children they must learn that they can't always have EVERYTHING they want. A child must learn to go to bed at a certain time and not fight it, and a terrier must learn to stay in her crate. After all, moms and dads know best! The crate is a safe haven that will keep her from wreaking havoc while loose in the house, and will ultimately assure that every homecoming is a happy one... unlike some folks who come home to destruction or their dog's "messes" if you know what I mean.
