Question:

: Ive Got two questions
: every time we open the gate from our back yard, Jackie runs out as fast as she can, we end up chaseing heer into one of the busest streets in town and she has to get carried home.. she usally comes when called, but not when some one is comming in or out of the gate.
: second question!
: Jackie has found a lil spot under a newly planted tree wich she loves to dig under.. i fill the hole up, and repremand her when i cetch her in the act, but no avail, she keeps on digging.. how should i stop her?

Hi Ashley and Jackie O,

First, don't open the gate until you have a good grip on her. If she resists being caught, keep some really yummy treats handy and use those to grab her. My dogs have been through obedience and know the "stay" command but I still do not trust them outside. If will probably take a lot less time to use the treat than it takes to catch her when she escapes.

As for the digging, if she is just doing it in the one spot you might try a "mulch mat". It is a solid mat that is made to go around the trunk of trees. I just found one at the local Lowe's store. You could also put down some hardware cloth and cover it with regular mulch and see if this helps.

Best,
Sue
