| Question: : My JRT is almost 4 years old. He has been away to school with me and is used to living in a house (where my parents keep him confined) with a large yard and also in an apartment where he has run of the house and no yard. I am making a major move into a very spacious apartment where he will actually have more indoor space than he has had to date. There is small backyard for business and sniffing and fresh air and a large park close by. I know that this kind of living is not recommended but I am certain that I am the right owner for him. Our bond is unbelievable. What are some ways that I can give him the exercise he needs on a daily basis? Are there any agility training facilties in the NYC area? What kinds of games can I introduce him to that will challenge his intelligence? ------------------ Response Area ------------------- You sound like a GREAT owner for you jrt! I do not have much space for my jrt to play in and live right by NYC. So here is what we do. We do tons of agility. I get my baby to classes; she trials just about every weekend and we go to a park and train. For info on agility in NYC, please contact Jean Owen at zena_gismo@aol.com or BlurOfur@aol.com . Also check out: http://www.manhattandogtraining.com/home.html Also if you have a car, I train at Skyline Agility Club in West Haverstarw, NY. You can check us out at www.skylineagility.org There are also many places in New Jersey. Please e-mail me privately if you are interested. We also make it a point to find time to play with her. We go to enclosed fields (high school for example) and we play with frisbee or ball. Please make sure the field is enclosed. If you are a jogger--take your baby to Central Park. Watch out though--there arre rats in the park and your jrt will smell them. So make sure you have your jrt on leash. Also be careful not to let your jrt eat anything on the ground. There is someone poisoning pigeons in NYC which is also leathal to dogs. When the weather gets bad, we play silly games indoors. I have lure toys and she chases them in the house. We also try and do tricks. We also have the advantage of the indoor agility center. Good luck in NYC! Claudia A. Costa |
