| Question: : We just got our first JRT today from the local humane society, they estimate her to be 2 years old. Her tail is docked and she holds it tucked tight between her hindquarters. Is this normal, my husband is concerned it is not. ------------------ Response Area ------------------- Hi Paula. Thank you so much for adopting this jrt. That is wonderful of you to do. A jack should not tuck its tail under. This is usually asign of fear. Given your jr's circumstances, it may still be afraid. Rememeber this is a new home and who knows what she went thru. Give your jr time. With love and praise, she should come around. Don't fuss over it or she will sense your anxiety. Just try and keep her happy. Be careful with corrections since she is new to the house and has to decide whether to trust you. Remember always that she was in a shelter. She could think--will they leave me too? Or, depending on her background, will Ibe safe here? Give her time and with lots of love, she should come around. If you sense that it is more than that, please see a vet. Good luck and thnak you again for saving this jack's life. Claudia A. Costa |
