Question:

: My 8 week old JRT accidently feel into the pool (when I was in it) about a week ago. Since then, he seems to want to join me when I am swimming. I only swim once or twice a week. At what age can he join me?

Hi Jennie,

You will have to make sure to keep an eye on your puppy so it doesn't fall into the pool when nobody is around.

As far as your other question, I personally would not let any of my dogs do a lot of swimming in a pool. Pools are filled with harsh chemicals which can absorb through a dog's skin. Dog's seem to have more sensitive skin and us humans and I wouldn't expose my dog to much in the way of the massive amounts of chlorine that are in pools.

If you feel you would like your dog to be able to cool off in the summer I suggest getting a kiddy wading pool and fill it with just a garden hose. He will have just as much fun and probably more seeing that his feet can touch the ground.

Many people put balls that float in the pools and some even get live feeder goldfish for them to try to get. The fun possiblities are endless for them in these kiddy wading pools.

Regards,
Marie
