Question:

: Hi,

: We recently bought a JRT, she's 7 weeks old and my questions is about sleeping locations. It's nearly spring here in Sydney, Australia and I can understand her wanting a warm and cozy place to sleep onto -- my bed. Several times a week I am up until 3am. She refuses to sleep anywhere else but on my lap, which is impossible when I'm moving around the computer -- doing my projects and such.

: Will this be a habbit of hers? When it's no longer cold, will I have a difficult time convincing her to sleep on a large pillow on a basket... while I'm working on my projects at home?

: Thanks in advance =)

: Isaac

Hi Isaac,

As you are finding out this breed loves their people. When I am on the computer I have to gate mine away because I would have 2 full grown JRTs on my lap!

If you allow her on your lap, yes it will become a habit and she will expect that it is okay.

Yes you will have a difficult time convincing her that a large pillow is far better than your lap or your bed. :)

My suggestion is to start immediately to get her accustomed to sleeping in the basket. Will this drive you insane for the first few days? Most assuredly yes!

But the work you put in now will pay dividends later because it is much harder to break old habits than to establish new ones.

She's at the right age to get her accustomed to your preferred sleeping arrangements for her.

Good Luck!
Marie
