Question:

: Hi-
: I have two jack russels. One of them seems to "leek" out of her anal area. I have tried to read previously asked questions, yet could not find any that pertained to this issue. She does not "scoot" hear rear on the carpet. It most often happens when she is relaxed lying on top of me or my fiance. The smell is awful. It happens so often that when she does it, she goes and stands by the sink so we can wash her. My other jack russell will clean herself and there is not much of a problem. Is there a way to drain these glands yourself? Thanks.

Hi Dean,

I had the exact same problem with one of my terriers. He would as we like to say at our house "loose his anal glands" on a pretty regular basis and just like your girl it would happen mostly when he was totally relaxed and on our laps!

He is a rescue and according to the medical records that came with him there was a notation of an anal gland problem.

I switched him over to a premium kibble, he was eating a brand found in supermarkets. Within a short period of time his anal gland leakage problem cleared up.

If you have your girls on food from the supermarket I highly suggest making the switch to a premium kibble that you can find a pet specialty stores readily.

Not only should it help to relieve the anal gland problem, but you will find that your dogs produce a smaller, firmer stool. You don't have to feed as much as the supermarket brands as the premium kibbles are more concentrated and contain no fillers.

Please give this a try and see what happens. In the meantime make sure you have some Febreze handy!

Regards,
Marie
