Question:

: I have a 4 1/2 mos old male jrt and will be getting a
: 8week female soon. Any suggestions for a smooth move? I plan on using crates for them I do now for the male. Ive never owned a small dog before but I just love my jrt, so does my husband even though he bit him when trying to take him out of the bed one night.

Hi Margaret,

Well you will soon be having your hands even more full than you probably have now!

This shouldn't be too hard a transition as you are dealing with puppies here. Make sure each has separate crates and the like and make sure the littlest one doesn't get bugged all the time from the older one as she will not have as much energy as your male at this early age. She will want to do a lot of napping so make sure she has a safe, quiet place she can go to.

Make sure they have separate feed bowls although they can share a water bowl.

I can't predict much in the way of "jealousy" seeing that your other guy is only 4½ months but be on the look-out for it and then make sure that he gets a lot of positive attention.

If these two are to be strictly pets, then I would suggest getting them spayed and neutered as early as possible. This will save you untold headaches in the future plus the benefit of eliminating potential deadly diseases such as testicular and mammary cancers.

Also, make sure you get your pair into a good obedience school. Even a puppy class will be a big help into making your little ones into good canine citizens.

Good Luck!
Marie
