Question:

: I was wondering why many of Australian JRTs are tan/white with short legs?
: What are they created with ?

Hi Rita,

Australia has two separate and distinct terriers. The one you are asking about is called a Jack Russell Terrier, the other which fits the JRTCA standard is called a Parson Jack Russell Terriers. Here in the U.S. the longer legged square terrier is known as the Jack Russell Terrier which is based on the Reverand John Russell's original terriers.

The short legged terrier has Australia listed as its home origin but I can't tell you why. I believe these days they are created with the breeding of other dogs from their breed in Australia.

What produced the short legged terrier in the first place? There are several theories but you are better served asking that at a board devoted to their type.

Hope this kind of explains things!
Marie
