Question:

: My female jack russell barks at everything. Even thing I don't hear she is barking at. I have tried getting a squirt gun after her because no just does not work. Also, I recently got her a companion. Now, she never hears no. I am having a hard time separating them when they play. Should I take them to obedience school? I have raised dogs my entire life but discipline does not seem to work when they are together. Thanks so much.

Hi Cara,

Well I have to say I am not surprised to hear that your JRT barks a lot. This breed was bred to bark, it is a baying terrier that once underground and locates its quarry will worry and bark at that quarry until dug to or the quarry bolts.

This is in their genetic makeup to bark and you have to remember too a dog's hearing is infinitely more superior than a human's.

It sounds to me like your girl could use more exercise than she is getting and just getting a companion will not do much to make a dent in the amount of exercise this breed needs.

Make sure to do a search on our search engine regarding barking there will be PLENTY of other posts regarding this subject and yes by all means get your dogs into obedience school! It's the very best thing you can do for your dogs and yourself.

Regards,
Marie
