Question:

: My female JRT (spayed) is two years old. I have just recently been letting her sleep with me (she usually sleeps in her crate at night) which she seems to like. But every morning she jumps off the bed and wants to vomit (usually yellowish bial comes out-but very little). I talked to my vet about it and he said that she's probably so hungry that her stomach is upset. I feed her at about 8:30am and then at 3:30pm. She does get some snacks after her last meal. I realize that 17 hours is a long time before shes fed again. His suggestion was to give her a small meal (not much) before bedtime to tide her over. Have you had any experience with this problem? Should I change her feeding times? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Barry,
I have a terrier that, due to stomach and bowel problems in the past, gets sick if he goes too long between meals. A friend of mine has a female terrier who just turned nine who has done the same since she was a pup, but only in the mornings.
Feeding on a schedule is a great thing, a really great thing. But your time frame is not good. That's way too long between meals; you've already seen evidence of that. Try it yourself for a week or so, and see how you feel. You'll have too adjust somehow. I would either follow your vet's suggestion, or talk to him about splitting the amount of her 3:30 meal and feeding half at 3:30, half at 8:30, and then slowly adjusting back to one meal at say 6pm or so.
