Question:

: : What is the best way to get your dog ready for the Races? I have a trial coming up in 2 weeks and it is both of our first race. What do I expect and how do I get him ready? I asume it is trial and error really? is this true?

: Dear Sam,

: Please visit the Terrier Trial page on this website; you will find plenty of information about racing.

: Racing can be confusing for both owner and terrier -- everything happens very quickly and it's quite noisy! I suggest you let the racing coordinators know that this is your terrier's first time on the track and ask them to introduce you to someone who can help you.

: Good luck and above all else, HAVE FUN!

Hi Sam,

In addition to Leslie's good advice, I would suggest getting your terrier used to the muzzle before race day.

Many novice terriers end up trying to get their muzzles off instead of running down the track. The more accustomed you can get your dog to the racing muzzle the better chance it will run down the track.

Good Luck!
