Question:

: My wife and I own a two year old neutered male Boston Terrier. We are considering adopting a four month old(soon to be neutered) male Jack Russell from the local Humane Society shelter. In researching JRT's I've seen numerous warnings about same-sex aggression. Would we just be asking for trouble with these two dogs?

Hi John,
Same-sex aggression is not limited to a JRT-JRT relationship, and the things you are reading are not made up. It is great that you want to adopt this needy dog, but please be aware that this problem is very real and could affect you. Please do as much research and reading on the subject as possible, spend a lot of time with this terrier (including introducing your other dog and seeing him interact with others) before you take him home, continue both dog's socialization outside the home for the rest of their lives and as a worse-case-scenerio, be prepared to rotate their time in house and yard if they need to be separated. It always pays to have a back-up plan, which hopefully you would not need.
Good luck!
Heather
