Question:

: My JRT is 2 yrs old and has just RECENTLY decided to chew/tear up our brand new carpet (does this daily now)- along with the padding underneath... never had this problem with the dog before- please advise!

Hi Julz,

The first thing I would do is to set some mouse traps around your home. There is the distinct possibility that you might have an unwanted visitor.

I don't know where you live but I live in the Northeast and now that the weather is starting to change is when we usually get visited by the little white-footed mice. Yeah they are cute but certainly not something I want hanging around the house and my one terrier Brody goes absolutely nuts.

He will bark and scratch at the walls and floors when he picks up the scent of one. Mice do much of their traveling between walls and floors.

Unfortunately for Brody the mice never really show themselves to him so he can't actually get them. That is my job, I set traps and once their dead Brody could care less about them. This is just our annual ritual around here.

Give it a try and see if this is what is setting your terrier off.

Regards,
Marie
