| Question: : : I have read the message board and my JRT, a 1 & 1/2 yr old female exhibits so many of the behavior problems talked about here, I don't even know where to begin with her, she cannot control herself, she knows the stay command, but can only hold it for a few seconds. She jumps at us full speed when we come home, and jumps at the doors and windows if we go outside, she barks & growls at everyone who walks by outside, even the neighbors putting out their trash, she bolts out the door on occasion, she growls at male neighbors, she attacks the vacuum & broom, she attacks the gate we have to put in front of the stairs, because she will go upstairs & destroy things in my childtens rooms, ie library books, she jumps on the furniture, which she knows she is not allowed on (she knows because whenever I come downstairs she quickly jumps down), and the latest thing, which I really cannot tolerate is, she has begun jumping up to the dinner table & eating off plates left unattended, even if for just a minute to get a fork out of the drawer. (By the way she has never been fed table food, but now I fear that she has had a taste of it she will not stop this behavior.) Where do I begin? She is so much work, and makes for just a hectic, circus like atmosphere around here. I have 3 kids, and whenever one of there friends come over its pandemonium, she just barks and growls when they are at the door. When they come in she tends to put her ears back & growl lowly, but I fear she will hurt someone someday. : ------------------ Response Area ------------------- : I have only two suggestions in getting your terrier under control: Obedience School and more exercise. : Regards, ------------------ Response Area ------------------- In addition to Marie's suggestions, please review 9/27 post on this board "Response to 'Out of Control.'"
