| Question: : I have an 11 month old Jack Russell which I purchased from a pet store at 5 months old. He is well behaved in all aspects. But he is overly protect of myself and my youngest child. He will growl and actually snarl at my husband when the dog is lying beside me. He will jump and growl at the other children who become aggressive to my son. We have another jr puppy who will be six months and they get along fine. ------------------ Response Area ------------------- If your terrier is not neutered, get an appointment to have him done as soon as you can. Not only does neutering help to lessen aggressive behavior it will also help to keep a male dog from marking. Your dog is displaying signs of territorial aggression in the form of protection. The best thing to do is to get the dog enrolled in a good obedience school and get it more socialized. A well socialized dog normally will be accepting of many people. Your trainer should be able to help you with this problem and show you how to set your dog up and use a proper leash correction to deal with this problem. Regards, |
