| Question: : I actually have several questions and have searched the archives but have not seen my exact questions / advise. I have a 16 month JR male, that should soon be registered (have sent all documents and fees). He is the center of our lives, but seems to still have some bad behavior. : 1. Ace measures 15 x 15 and 19 around his chest. Is the size of his chest fine for his length and height? : 2. Ace has "selective hearing" and does not always listen when told certain things, almost seems to test his limits when commanded. : 3. We would love to show Ace and would like to know more about preparing for show in the Houston Texas area. : 4. We would like to "stud" him, are there any sites / services offered to locate persons looking for stud service? : 5. Ace has a 'broken coat" recently upon visting the Vet we were told to bath him every two weeks, what would be the recommened method to use. : We have enjoyed this site very much and will be visting it often. Thanks for all of your time and the hard work that is put into to it. ------------------ Response Area ------------------- As too selective hearing, have you had your dog BAER Tested to make sure he can hear. This isn't done by a regular Vet, but by an Audiologist that specializes in hearing problems and Jack Russells can have hearing problems. If this isn't a hearing problem then, a good Obedience class should help with this and it will also help you keep the dog in focus, which seems hard for Jack Russells. As to showing, you can check out the Trial schedule to see if there are trials in your area. Most of us who do terrier trials have to travel as they are not in our back yard so to speak. Keep checking the Schedule during the year as the trail season is over for this year., Trial Menu I don't know know of any site where you can offer stud service, but remember that most breeders are looking for dogs that have been BAER Tested, CERF Tested, a show record, and one that have been worked in the field. This is a working breed of Terrier so working ability is very important in this breed. As a breeder I wouldn't consider a dog that doesn't have all these qualifications and then some. See the medical link below for more information on BAER and CERF Testing. As to the BATHING, all I can say is PLEASE DON'T or you will break down both your dogs skin and coat. It takes 6 to 8 weeks for a dog to replinish the natural oils in a dogs skin, and over bathing is the cause of most skin problems. I can't tell you when my dogs have had a bath, it just isn't necessary in this breed. My dog are bathed only when they have rolled in something really smelly, or have been skunked. Otherwise NO ONE advises bathing this breed. , | |||
