Question:

: Hello,
: I have a (almost) 2 year old Jack Russell. Recently, I noticed two of his nails on his front paws had a different color (like there was blood inside the nail). I took him (Spike) to the vet, and the vet said there was no inflammation and that Spike didn't seem to be in pain. The vet I should not worry about it. But I am still worried because he now has a third nail with the same problem. Hope you can help. Thank you.

Hi Isabel,

Many times with clear or white nails you will actually be able to see the "quick" of the nail. It should appear pinkish in color. The quick is where the nerve endings and a vein is. One has to be careful not to cut into the quick as it will bleed.

I am just assuming this is the area of the nail you are talking about. If this is what I have described then your vet was correct not to worry.

If your vet's answer was unsatisfactory to you I would go somewhere else for a second opinion.

Regards,
Marie
