Question:

: hello,
: I have a couple of question.
: First, How do you stop our puppy from eating everything he sees.
: when we go out for party break he would take everything in his mouth including small rock.
: When I'm trying to get it out of his mount he tries to bite.
: Second, just yesterday when we were walking him to the dog run. we live in nyc so we have to walk about 10 block up. once in a while we would just stop and lay down on the ground flat.
: So we end it up carrying him the rest of the way.
: Why does he do that.
: Is it because he doesn't want to walk?
: Can you help me with these questions
: thank you very much for your previous help

Hi Kyung,

The best way to keep your puppy from eating everything it sees is to keep a good eye on him while you are out and have him leashed. This way when he goes to put something in his mouth you can give a gentle leash corrrection and a firm "NO." When he drops or stops putting the item in his mouth you must praise him lavishly and tell him waht a good dog he is for not putting that icky item in his mouth.

This behavior is very natural to a puppy as this is one of the ways he explores this big new world he is in, but as you know this can also be a dangerous behavior so you must be constantly vigilant.

As far as your other question, 10 city blocks is pretty far for a small puppy and what he is telling you is he is tired. It is best to gradually work him up to completing the whole trip. You have to remember these little ones don't have as much stamina yet as a young adult dog and they are still growing and their bones are still forming. So when he flops down he is telling you he is tired.

Remember, constant watching him and having him on a leash to give corrections will help with the "everything in his mouth" problem and make sure to praise him when he does good.

Enjoy your pup!
Marie
