| Question: : My female JRT of just over 2 years of age is a real couch potato. She loves compfort and seems to dislike it when I want to take her for walks. Today I got a block away from my house and she layed down in the middle of the street. I could tell she didn't want to go any further. There are some small children that she doesn't like and when she hears their voices she runs in the other direction. The children mean well, but they're excitable and my dog doesn't like it. My JRT is also very spoiled and loves the compfort of the sofa or bed. Will she ever get over this hangup of not liking walks? ------------------ Response Area ------------------- Well dogs can be a lot like people. Some people love to take wallks and others just don't care for it. Some people over-do the length of walks and many dogs will just shut down. Think about how far you walk and see if maybe it might be too far for her. If it isn't then I would guess she just doesn't care for them. In that case there are plenty of other ways to get her out and exercised. I don't know of too many JRTs (or other dogs for that matter) that doesn't love a good game of fetching tennis balls. This is even far better exercise for her than just a walk. If you don't have a fenced in yard, you can try to locate a fenced in area (perhaps a tennis court not in use..with permission) or it even works well inside your home, down a hallway. Enroll yourself and your terrier in a class like fly-ball or agility. These are also wonderful ways of getting your couch potato up and moving. It is also great for socialization which this breed really needs a lot of. Regards,
