Question:

: I have a 2 year old JRT stud. We have a bitch here to be bred. He has never bred before. I have had all the tests done as far as genetic problems so now it is just to get him to breed. He has all the drive and is doing everything right excet that he can't hit the hole. Any suggestions on how we can help? If we try to direct the penis he gets over excited and then we can't do anything. Help.

Hi Jayme,
The best thing to do is stay out of it and even if you have to put them in a pen and hide somewhere, just to make sure the bitch doesn't flip and ruin your stud dog. I have a stud dog that won't breed if I am around, and other who don't give a hoot, whether I am there or not. Sometimes it takes a hour or so for a male to breed, but added help from you isn't helping either.
Just put them together and leave but be sure you are close by without him seeing you. If it doesn't happen in a hours or so, then take him out and try again tomorrow. Once he looses it rebreeding that day isn't helping either. The bitch may not be quite ready and your dog knows it. Remember that these dogs don't read the books that we do, and this is something that will happen if it meant to be.
All else fails call your Vet.

Linda
