Question:

: I aquired a 6 year old jack russell about a year ago. He has been very loyal and somewhat obedient from the beginning. Is it worth my time and money to accompany my jack russell to obedient school. I've always heard the older the dog, the tougher it is to train them. I would appreciate any information that you can provide. Thank you.

Hi Efren,

I own 5 Jacks (4-10 yrs old), and basic obedience school has always worked well for us.

While I know there are folks who want their Jacks to perform well in competitive obedience classes, all I've ever wanted is for my Jacks to heel..not yank my arm off when walking them. Lightweight choke collars & small treats work well for training.

Not to worry, you can still teach an old dog new tricks!

Best,
Judy
