Unless you are willing to invest a generous amount of time into training and socializing your terrier, he/she could be quite a barker when people knock on the door. And yes, they make wonderful alarm systems and do tend to bark a lot. After all, they're bred to go down in the earth to bark at animals to keep them at bay or bolt them out of the ground.

If barking is an issue for someone, they don't want a JRT.
