: i have an eight week old JRT and i want to get her equipment to go out for walks. Should i get an adjustable collar or a harness?? also, is a retractable leash recommanded??

Hi Kenneth,
If this were my pup, I'd be getting her used to wearing a regular collar. She can wear it around the house or out in the yard under supervision. Take it off when you aren't with her so she doesn't get hung up on things or frigthened. Some dogs take longer than others to adjust to a collar, so be very patient with her if she needs it.
At this age, I wouldn't be doing leash work outside of my fenced yard. Discuss with your vet her vaccination schedule and when it will be safe to expose her to outside surroundings and other dogs. Right now, she is not fully protected and venturing out could be dangerous. If she is going to have a social hour, have a friend and their dog over. It is safe to socialize with healthy, protected dogs you know. It's the ones you don't know that could be exposing her to all sorts of "creepy crawlies." Play it safe for now.
Have fun with your baby!
