Question:

: I have a 12 week old jack russell and have begun to train it. It has learned come, sit and up but I can't get it to learn much else yet like down(lie down), rollover, or anything fancy. I am not sure about when the correct training ages are considering this is my first ever puppy. can anyone give me some suggestions and am I going to quickly for my puppy?

Hi Tara,
There is nothing wrong with working with your puppy when it is young, as long as you bear in mind their attention span is less than a nanosecond. Make your training sessions short, full of play and happy. If the dog is looking bored or frustrated and your patience is growing thin, you've gone too far. Finish up and play a game or go outside to play before it gets to that point. Making training fun now will help you tremendously in the long-run, creating a dog that loves to work with mom! Right now, focus on having a good time, and enjoy your puppy while "puppy" lasts (not long enough!)!
