Colitis in my puppy

My 8 month old un-neutered male JRT has been having regular bouts of diarrhea (often with clots of fresh blood). The diarrhea is almost daily (usually in the morning). He has no loss of appetite nor is he lethargic. When his diarrhea consisted of almost ALL blood yesterday, my vet put him on an antibiotic and told me to keep him on a bland diet for a couple of days. My question is ... what could be causing this? He'll usually have two normal bowel movements on our walk and then when we're almost home, he'll start with diarrhea...I'd be interested to hear any thoughts you might have. I'll finish out the antibiotic and we'll see where he stands, but I would like to have a better idea of what's happening.
