| Question: : I have searched the forum for this and I know that it takes time to heal after spaying. We had our girl spayed yesterday through the humane soceity they called us after 6 o clock pm. She hasn't ate much she has had water. The question is should I feed her something other than her dry kimble? She is still a little out of it they said she would be for a day or too. When will she get her appetite back? Thanks so much for having this forum. ------------------ Response Area ------------------- She's likely not eating because her tummy is upset from the anesthesia. Unfortunately, having an empty tummy doesn't feel so great either. I suggest you try enticing her to eat her kibble by adding warm water to it and letting it sit for a few minutes before you pour off the excess water. Since she's not had any food for at least 36 hours, don't give her a full meal. If she finishes what you give her and keeps it down, then you can give her more in 4 hours or so. The key is to keep her from vomitting. You may also want to give her some plain, low-fat yogurt -- start with 1/2 a teaspoon. Yogurt will soothe not only her stomach but her entire digestive tract. As an added treat, let her lick the yogurt from the spoon -- this seems to cheer up my terriers when they aren't feeling well. :-) As long as she continues to drink water, I wouldn't worry too much about her recovery. However, if she continues to refuse to eat, I suggest you take her to the vet. Again, you do not want her to start vomitting. Good luck, |
