| Question: : I don't have a question to ask, but I do have a strong warning. My best friend in the world got hit by a car today, that was my 2 year old Jack Russell, Spencer. I live on a 3.5 acre tract and live on a dead end road about a mile long. I never thought this would happen I let Spencer out to play with his 6th month old sister and he caught sight of a squirel that darted down my driveway (about 300 ft from the road) Spencer darted after the squirel and was hit by a van and broke his neck, killing him instantly. I can't stress enough to Jack Russell owners to PLEASE have a fence and not let them out as I did. I let my best friend down, because if I would have had a fence I wouldn't be typing this tonight. I will not let my other Jack out until my fence is complete first thing in the morning. Spencer was the perfect dog and I will miss him very much. Please if you don't have a fence get one ASAP, as in my situtation I didn't feel my Jack's were in danger but I was sadly mistaken. ------------------ Response Area ------------------- I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Spencer. I am sure this post must have been hard to write. What happened to your Spencer is the biggest killer of this breed. This is why we stress to never let a dog off lead in unconfined areas, even in rural areas. Rural areas have roads too and many JRTs find their way to them. These little guys are so prey driven they can be their own worst enemy and we need to watch over them. Thank you for taking the time to warn others so they don't experience the grief you are feeling now. I hope all that read it heeds your warning and not think it can't happen to them...it happens all the time. I hope your heart will heal soon, |
