Question:

: On 12/22/01 we purshased a JTR (Sasha) from a breeder in south jersey. The breeder told us that she was fine and gave a health cert. on 12/26/o1 she becane ill. wet stools, we toook her right to our vet, he gave her a stronger womrer and said it could be Coxsidia. he gave us an atnibuiotic and special food and instructions that we followed to the letter. on 12/27 she became very ill (vomitting, very wet stools) we took her to the vet hospital, they said she was small for her size, and dehidrated from the vommiting ans wet stools, she was put on a IV drip to rehaidrate her, to make a lonng story short, while we were Sasha passed away today, We, my 14 Yrs son, are divestated. Saha was the warmest most lovable pup we ever had. My sons first. The breeder said that this was our fault because she was stressed and that's how she got the problem. I am a EMT instructor, my wife is an inteligent prfessional. We reseached the best dog for us and it was a JRT. We treated Sasha great. The Breeder. Don't get us wrong were good people and I am not trying to do anthing. The doctor at the hospital said she had to have had this prior to our purchase. The breeder is saying we caused it. The breeder is offing another pup, we are concerned. Please anything you can advise would be a godsend, did we kill our Sasha ? If you need more information please write.

Hi Jim,
No, I don't think that you caused it but I really can't tell you what to do, either. Puppies are like children, the become dehydrated in a matter of hours, and it doesn't take much.

Since you are concered about the breeder and the health of the other puppy, find out if you can take this puppy to the Vet of your choice and have it vetted out before making a decision. Don't just rely on the Health Cerf. If she is a reputable breeder she shouldn't have any problem with your Vet checking out the other puppy. Please make sure that this puppy has had some Vaccinations and then start the puppy on a regular vaccination program with your Vet, your Vet will know best.

Coccidia isn't something that I have ever seen kill a dog unless it has gone for quite sometime untreated, Albon is the normal course of Treatment. If it was coccidia then she had it when you got her.

I am so sorry that this has happened to you and your family, and I know that this has ruined your holiday season.
Wish there was something more that I could say, but there isn't.
Regards
Linda
