Wanting Attention

Question:

I have a 7 week old JRT who has proved to have been very smart. Two days ago he fell on his side off of a step. Ever since when he knows your watching he walks either with a limp or he will walk on 3 legs. Today I came into the room and saw he was walking just fine when he didnt think anyone was there. As soon as I said something he started limping again. Can the dog really be this smart? Please give me your suggestions.
