routine cleaning

Question:

I have never cleaned my dog's face, apart from the occassional rinsing of body with water only. is it necessary to routinely clean the fur on the face as well? if so, please advice how to do it. I have just started to use a little ear cleaner to clean the fur behind the ears. what about the fur at the mouth area?
