| Question: : I aquired a female JRT that was found living wild in the forest of the Northern California Coast. I have had her for a little over a year and my vet thinks she's 5 or 6. She is the most devoted terrier I have ever owned and loves me dearly. She is VERY agressive toward other dogs and will run out the door to attack (especially larger) other dogs, she eats from the cat-box, loves to eat discguarded tissue from the waste basket and CONSTANTLY humps legs!!! She also lifts her leg and urinates just like a male dog (sometimeslifting BOTH back legs which is VERY funny!!). My vet suggested hormones but i would rather find a natural method of making her a little less masculine and dominant. ANy suggestions? I have owned dogs (primarily Fox and Cairn Terriers) my whole life and this little lady perplexes me!!! There are some females that will mark, while not all that common it does happen. If your girl isn't spayed I recommend doing it not only for aggression issues but also health issues. I really don't know of any natural method that will reduce her dominance issues except the old tried and true method of obedience training. This will help most of her behavioral issues from other dog aggression (provided you get into a group class), could help with the "kitty-crunch" eating (using the "LEAVE IT" command). Usually dogs as devoted as yours do very well in school as they are eager to please you. Good Luck! | |||
